Protecting Spaces

Openlands
Strategy, Print

Openlands protects the natural and open spaces throughout northeastern Illinois and the surrounding region to ensure cleaner air and water, protect natural habitats and wildlife and help balance and enrich our lives. As one of the nation’s oldest and most successful metropolitan conservation organizations, Openlands has helped save, secure and provide public access to more than 55,000 acres of land for prairies, wetlands and greenway corridors, as well as parks, forest preserves and urban gardens.

Tandemodus partners with Openlands to develop strong visual support that connects with its members on initiatives that span from concept and design of Annual Luncheon materials to ongoing assistance with project initiatives like Openlands Lakeshore Preserve, Farmland Protection, and What Our Water’s Worth.

Each design concept for the Annual Luncheon materials is built around key initiatives of Openlands and followed through by the keynote speaker. In 2010, the annual Luncheon concept was based off of the nostalgic connection of nature and mankind. Keynote speaker Jonathan Rosen, New York Times best selling author of Life of the Skies, Birding at the End of Nature spurred the direction of a field guide to bird watching.

In 2009, Growing Communities took shape with keynote speaker Rick Bayless, Board Member of Chicago Green City Market (as well as founder of two popular restaurants and one PBS program), who discussed the importance of local crops and their availability. Each attendee of the benefit luncheon was welcomed with a take-away seed packet containing heirloom tomato seeds.

In addition, Tandemodus collaborates on deploying an electronic publication of the popular quarterly newsletter, Openlander.
